DETAILED REFUTE TO THE ATHAR OF IBN UMAR SAYING "YA MUHAMMAD"

DETAILED REFUTE TO THE ATHAR OF IBN UMAR SAYING "YA MUHAMMAD"

To Summarize :

Sayin Ya Muhammad or Ya rasool Allah has many aspects to it. It is allowed and forbidden both depending on the situation.

It is established that seeking help from someone who has left this world is shirq, and leads us out of the fold of Islam. Also, addressing rasool (s.a.w) as "Ya Muhammad" or Ya Ibn Abdullah and etc is disrespect and Allah revealed verses in the Quran stating in Treat not the calling of the Messenger among you like the calling of one of you to another. ALLAH indeed knows those of you who steal away covertly. So let those who go against HIS command beware lest a trial afflict them or a grievous punishment overtake them. [Surah 24:63]

Ibn katheer said regarding the above verses "Do not call him 'Ya Muhammad' and do not say 'son of Abdullah' but honor him and call him 'O Prophet of Allah' or 'O Messenger of Allah'

However, if one simply says " Ya rasool Allah " because he remembered him or as a gesture of missing him then that is permissible and there is no harm. But if he calls or addresses "ya muhammad" or "ya fulan" seeking help or assistance then that is shirq !

To help explain, consider the example of a son who misses his dead mom and says " ya ammi" . Now he does not say that to seek help from his mother, but rather said it because he missed her.

Similarly, intentions matter for rasool (s.a.w) said " every action is based on intentions and one shall get (good or bad ) as he intended  (bukhari)
