Abd-Allaah ibn Mas’ood said: The Messenger of Allaah (SAWW) said: “Tiyarah (belief in evil omens, superstition) is shirk.”
[Ref: Ahmad (4194), Abu Dawood (3910), al-Tirmidhi (1614) and Ibn Maajah (3538) and Classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood]

[Ref: Ahmad (7045) and al-Tabaraani ]
There is absolutely nothing in the Quran or Sunnah which would give rise to the belief that black (or any color) cats are a ‘bad omen’ or that the Jinn has the power to possess black cats! These beliefs are nothing but superstitions, and superstitions have absolutely no basis or relevance in the deen of Truth brought by Prophet Mohamed (sallAllahu alyhi wasallam).
The Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu alyhi wasallam) declared that the cat is not impure, and were amongst those pure animals which intermingle with humans in the report narrated by Abu Dawood (68) from Kabshah bint Ka’b ibn Maalik, who was married to Ibn Abi Qutaadah, Abu Qutaadah entered and she poured some water for him to do wudoo’.
A cat came and drank from the water, and he tipped the vessel for it so that it could drink. Kabshah said: “He saw me looking at him and he said, ‘Do you find it strange, O daughter of my brother?’ I said, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘The Messenger of Allaah (sallAllahu alyhi wasallam) said, “They (cats) are not naajis (impure), rather they are among those who go around among you (al-tawwaafeena ‘alaykum).”’”
•• ► CLIPPING NAILS, BROOMING THE HOUSE AFTER MAGHRIB
One may clip their nails, broom the house or the whole town, and do whatever chores they need to do, at any time of the day or night! ‘People’ may say a lot of things, but only what Allah and His Messenger (sallAllahu 'alyhi wasallam) have guided towards, is the Absolute Truth!
No nail, and no broom, and no one else has any power or strength to bring any good or harm upon us. All Power is Absolutely vested in the One and Only, All Mighty and All Powerful Lord of the Universe.
Allah says in the Glorious Quran:
►"If Allah should aid you, no one can overcome you; but if He should forsake you, who is there that can aid you after Him? And upon Allah let the believers rely." (3:160)
►"That is only Satan who frightens [you] of his supporters. So fear them not, but fear Me, if you are [indeed] believers." (3:175)
►"And do not invoke besides Allah that which neither benefits you nor harms you, for if you did, then indeed you would be of the wrongdoers. And if Allah should touch you with adversity, there is no remover of it except Him; and if He intends for you good, then there is no repeller of His bounty. He causes it to reach whom He wills of His servants. And He is the Forgiving, the Merciful. (10:106-107)
To fear that anyone or anything can bring upon us some harm or benefit is a manifestation of the heinous sin of shirk, and the believers must stay far away from anything that even has a connotation of this heinous and unforgiveable crime of ‘shirk’!
•• ► SUPERSTITION OF NUMBERS (786, 92, 110, 666, 13, 999)
There is no number which is considered lucky in Islam, nor is there any number which is considered an unlucky. The numbers like 786,92,110 etc have absolutely no significance in the Deen of Islam. They are numbers like all the other numbers.
ALL that we need to know & practice about our beautiful Deen ISLAM is clearly stated in the Qur'an & authentic haddeth of our prophet (sallAllahu 'alyhi wasallam).
When Allah or His Messenger (sallAllahu 'alyhi wasallam) want to teach us something, they do so in the clearest way, far from puzzles and mystery numbers. All the efforts made by some Muslims to count letters and relate them to numbers are nothing but a waste of time.
May Allah guide us & help us stick to the teachings of RasoolAllah (sallAllahu 'alyhi wasallam). Ameen.
•• ► EFFECTS OF ECLIPSES ON PREGNANT WOMEN
Solar and lunar eclipses do not affect a pregnant woman or her fetus, as there is no confirmation in the Book (of Allah) or the Sunnah (of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam) about this impact.
Beliefs like -'a pregnant woman tore a page during eclipse and the child was born with torn lips.., She ate too much of round peper during an eclipse and the child was born with a round black mark on her lip...', etc.- are nothing but conjecture and here-say and have absolutely no relation to the Truth! These types of beliefs are precisely what it means that the sun or the moon or anything else in existence can effect someone in the 'unseen'; and such beliefs are absolutely against the 'aqeedah' of Tawheed.
A woman who sincerely believes in Allah Subhanau taa'la and the Last Day, she should know that the sun, the moon, and the eclipse are Signs amongst the innumerable Signs of Allah (Subhanahu wa taa'la). If one who believes, experiences a time of eclipse, he/she should take the advice of the Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu 'alyhi wasallam), and remember Allah Subhanau taa'la much.
The Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu 'alyhi wasallam) said •► “The sun and the moon are two of the signs of Allaah and they do not become eclipsed for the death or birth of anyone. But Allaah sends them to make His slaves fear (Him), so if you see that, then pray and make du’aa’ until it is over.” [Bukhari, Book 18 #150]
According to another version he (sallAllahu 'alyhi wasallam) said•► “So if you see that [eclipse], then hasten to remember Allaah and call upon Him and seek His forgiveness.” [Bukhari, Book 18 #156]
ALL that we need to know & practice about our beautiful Deen ISLAM is clearly stated in the Qur'an & authentic haddeth of our prophet (sallAllahu 'alyhi wasallam). May Allah guide us & help us stick to the teachings of RasoolAllah (sallAllahu 'alyhi wasallam). Ameen.
•• ► INTERLACING FINGERS OR CRACKING KNUCKLES OF FINGERS
There is no authentic hadith in the established Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu allaihi wa sallam) whereby he (sallAllahu alaihi wasallam) prohibited or discouraged the believers from breaking their knuckles of their fingers. There's no evidence in the Shariáh which proves that it invites shaytan or bad luck in one's life!!!
•• ► RIZQ (PROVISION) IS FROM WIFE'S LUCK AND CHILDREN FROM HUSBAND'S LUCK
There is absolutely no truth in the statement that all rizq/provision/wealth is from wife’s luck, and all children from husband’s luck! In fact, there is absolutely no concept of good or bad luck in Islam! Everything, absolutely everything, that happens in this Universe happens with the Permission of the One Who is All Mighty, All Wise, and All Knowing.
The distribution of rizq depends on the Will of Allah Subhanau Taa'la; He gives in abundance to whomever He Pleases, and He gives in limited measure to whomever He Wills! No wife, or no husband, or no luck, has anything to do with the distribution of wealth by Allah Subhanau Taa'la.
Allah says in the Glorious Quran:
►"Do they distribute the mercy of your Lord? It is We who have apportioned among them their livelihood in the life of this world and have raised some of them above others in degrees [of rank] that they may make use of one another for service. But the mercy of your Lord is better than whatever they accumulate."(43:32)
Same is the case in regards to children: Allah Subhanau Taa'la gives children to whomever He Wills, gives boys to whomever He Wills, gives girls to whomever He wills, and withholds the birth of children from whomever He Wills! Everything, absolutely everything, is in the Absolute and Sole Control of Allah Subhanau Taa'la Alone!
He (subhanahu wa Taála) says in the Glorious Qur'an:
►"To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth; He creates what he wills. He gives to whom He wills female [children], and He gives to whom He wills males. Or He makes them [both] males and females, and He renders whom He wills barren. Indeed, He is Knowing and Competent." (42:49-50)
When Allah Wills to show Mercy to any of His slaves, nothing can withhold that Mercy! And if Allah Wills to put some calamity on someone, no power in the Universe can remove that calamity except Him! There is absolutely no concept of good luck or bad luck in Islam. Everything that happens in the Universe happens with the Permission and within the Plan of Allah (Subhanau Taa'la).
•• ►THE GLORIOUS QURAN SHOULD NOT BE TOUCHED WHEN ONE IS WEARING SHOES??
There is absolutely no such restriction in Shari'ah which declares that a believer, man or woman, cannot touch the Glorious Qur'an while wearing shoes. More often than not, the Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu 'alyhi wasallam) and the noble companions prayed with their shoes on in their humble masjid at Madinah; simply because the Prophet’s Masjid in their times was on bare ground without any carpets or floor coverings, unlike our mosques today.
Abu Sa'eed reported that once the Prophet (sallAllau 'alyhi wasallam) removed his shoes while he was praying, and the people behind him did likewise. When he (sallAllau 'alyhi wasallam) finished the prayer, he (sallAllau 'alyhi wasallam) asked, "Why did you remove your shoes?" They said, "We saw you remove yours." He (sallAllau 'alyhi wasallam) said, "Jibreel ('alyhissalam)came to me and informed me that there was some filth (impurity) on them. Therefore, when one of you comes to the masjid, he should turn his shoes over and examine them. If one finds any dirt on them, he should rub them against the ground and pray with them on."
(Related by Ahmad, Abu Dawud, al-Hakim, Ibn Hibban and Ibn Khuzaimah)
The Messenger of Allah (sallAllau 'alyhi wasallam) said: ‘Act differently from the Jews, for they do not pray in their sandals or their shoes.’
(Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 652 Narrated by Aws ibn Thabit al-Ansari)
•• ► LEAVING FOOTWEAR (SHOES) UPSIDE DOWN
There are some people who say that if a shoe is placed upside down, the angels will not enter that house or Allah will not look at that house or there will be disputes & bad luck in one's house.
Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on him) said concerning this •►"That is not correct and I do not know of there being anything wrong with a shoe being upside down. But this is a very serious matter for some people. It may be very serious for some people but there is no basis for it."
(Noor 'ala al-Darb, 13/65)
There is no evidence in the sharee'ah that if you keep your footwear upside down, something bad will happen to you, this is again an invented lie and believers believe in the evidences from Qur'aan and Sunnah and not what they learn from Non Muslim cultures!!
•• ► TWITCHING OF EYES
There is no connection between Twitching of eyes and bad luck. This a superstition of the Kuffaar which the Muslim must beware of, because it is one of the actions of Jaahiliyyah (Ignorant Ones). It was proven that the Prophet (sallAllahu 'alyhi wasallam) forbade superstitious belief in bad omens and he said that this is a form of minor shirk that is contrary to the Tawheed in which we must believe, because superstition is a trick by means of which the Shaytaan seeks to cause fear and whisper into people’s hearts.
••► BITING NAILS
The biting of the nails is indeed a bad habit, as it is extremely unhygienic and a source for diseases. But there is no sin in it; especially if one is trying to avoid this bad habit.
The biting of the nails in no way affects one’s finance flows in any manner! This is a superstition of the Kuffaar, and the believers, who sincerely believe in Allah and the Last Day, do not hold any superstitions at all.
Our life, our property, our wealth, our death, everything; absolutely everything, is in the control of Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala. No biting of any nails, or anything else in the world can affect the finances of a person for Allah Subhanau taa'la Alone is the Owner of everything in existence, and He bestows provisions on whoever He Wills.
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 17 Surah Israa verse 30:
Verily, your Lord doth provide sustenance in abundance for whom He pleases, and He provides in a just measure: for He does know and regard all His servants.
Allah says in the Holy Quran Chapter 29 Surah Ankabut verse 62:
Allah enlarges the sustenance (which He gives) to whichever of His servants He pleases; and He (similarly) grants by (strict) measure (as He pleases): for Allah has full knowledge of all things.
••► FEET TOWARDS QIBLAAH
There is absolutely no restriction in the Shariah which states that one cannot sit with their legs towards the direction of the Kaaba. If one in a normal sitting position faces his legs towards the Kaaba, without any intention of disrespect; there is absolutely no harm and no sin. If one does not keep his legs towards Qiblaah out of respect, it is good but he shouldn't say that it is a sin as there is no evidence of it in the sunnah.
•• ►DATE OF BIRTH & THE ALPHABETS IN A NAME DECIDES THE CHARACTER ??
The date of the birth or the alphabets of a name have absolutely no bearing on the character of a person. The believers, who sincerely believe in Allah and the Last Day, should not hold or believe such false beliefs and superstitions.
If one changes the name because he fears such false superstitions, that the alphabet in one’s name or the date of one’s birth has an adverse effect on the child; it will be considered a major sin in Islam as such beliefs are equivalent to ‘shirk’!
•• ►WOMEN/MEN MUST COVER HAIR WHILE EATING ??
There is absolutely nothing in the authentic and established Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu ályhi wasallam) whereby either the believing men or the believing women are commanded, ordered, guided, or even encouraged to cover their hair while eating.
However, there is no harm that the woman covers her head when eating, and this is not considered an innovation as long as she does not intend by this act an act of worship. If she considers this as an act of worship then it is an innovation. So it is more appropriate not to cover her hair sometimes when eating so that people will not think that this is a Sunnah as long as there is nothing that requires covering the head like the *presence of a marriageable man (non mahram) and so forth*. If so, then it becomes obligatory to cover her head but *not because of eating*.
To cover one’s head or hair while eating is neither a requirement nor an obligation in Shari'ah for either the believing men or the believing women; but if one wishes to cover their hair for any reason while eating, there is absolutely no harm.
•• ► FORWARD THIS MESSAGE TO 10 PEOPLE OR WAIT FOR A PUNISHMENT ??
These messages are nonsensical. It is not permissible for Muslims to distribute them or even help in doing so. One of the gravest sins is to lie and attribute to Allaah The Almighty what is not to be attributed to Him, or to His Messenger . Allaah - The Almighty says:
•► {And on the Day of Resurrection you will see those who lied about Allaah [with] their faces blackened. Is there not in Hell a residence for the arrogant?} [Quran 39:60]
Narrated By 'Abdullah bin Az-Zubair: I said to my father, 'I do not hear from you any narration (Hadith) of Allah's Messenger as I hear (his narrations) from so and so?" Az-Zubair replied. l was always with him (the Prophet) and I heard him saying "Whoever tells a LIE AGAINST me then (surely) let him occupy, his seat in Hell-fire."
(Bukhari, Vol 1, Book 3. Knowledge. Hadith 107)
It is not permissible for Muslims to believe in the contents of these messages, or that they could bring about benefit or drive away harm. Anyone who believes in this would be committing Shirk (polytheism) and must repent. Allaah The Almighty has completed and perfected the religion for us, and his Messenger , reported this fact to all Muslims.
Hence, if anyone believes in such messages , he would be accusing our religion of imperfection, and the Prophet , of having concealed some knowledge. Allaah The Almighty says:
•► "This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you." [Quran 5:3]
•► "O Messenger, announce that which has been revealed to you from your Lord." [Quran 5:67]
•► "So leave them, [O Muhammad], for you are not to be blamed." [Quran 51:54]
Thus, Muslims all over the world should beware of such messages and should never distribute them thinking that IF THEY ARE NOT USEFUL, AT LEAST THEY ARE NOT HARMFUL. THEY ARE INDEED HARMFUL, BECAUSE THEY SPREAD IGNORANCE AMONG MUSLIMS AND TEACH THEM TO BE SUPERSTITIOUS.
One of those circulars speak about someone called Shaykh Ahmad, a servant at the mosque of the Prophet , who claims to have seen the Prophet , in a dream and that he , gave him a message to spread among Muslims. Another circular was about a disabled woman who had seen the Mother of the Believers, Zaynab may Allaah be pleased with her in a dream and was cured when she woke up.
There is no doubt that such messages are sent by suspicious groups. They make up stories and send the circulars to the Muslims so that they live in the darkness of ignorance and superstition. We ask Allaah The Almighty to guide all Muslims to all that pleases Him.
•• ►INNOVATIONS DURING THE MONTH OF RAJAB
During the month of Rajab, which is one of the four sacred months, some Muslims make some wrong practices through which they intend to come closer to Allaah Almighty and gain His forgiveness, love and pleasure. But they seek that through acts of worship which He did not permit nor legislate, and although they are seeking something good, they do not achieve it.
The point is not only in having a sincere and good intention, but the deed itself must be legitimate, or else it will be rejected because Prophet Muhammad sallallahu 'alyhi wasallam (may Allaah exalt his mention) said:
►"He who introduces any deed into our matter (Islam) which is not from it then it is rejected." [Al-Bukhaari and Muslim]
Therefore, any deed which is not in accordance with what Islam has come with is rejected.
►Ar-Raghaa'ib prayer is another thing which people innovated which was never legislated by Allaah nor His Messenger sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam (may Allaah exalt his mention). There is no authentic Hadith regarding a special prayer during the month of Rajab, and all the narrations concerning Ar-Raghaa'ib prayer are fabricated lies.
►People fast all the month of Rajab although there is no authentic Hadeeth in this regard and so this practice should be abandoned. On the other hand, those who are in the habit of fasting regularly, even in during other months, may fast or if one does not intend that it is sunnah to fast whole month.
►Another innovation is what they call the Rajabiyyah, which is an 'Umrah during Rajab which has no evidence proving it. Therefore, anyone who performs 'Umrah during Rajab for the sake of Rajab has committed a mistake. Moreover, the Prophet sallallaahu `alayhi wa sallam ( may Allaah exalt his mention ) never performed 'Umrah during Rajab even though he has performed 'Umrah four times.
Allaah alone Knows best.
•• ►GHOSTS, EVIL SOULS, WHITE LADY, VAMPIRES, ETC..??
The belief in ghosts that is prevalent in many countries where people believe that whoever is killed will appear as a ghost after his death is just a superstition. The vampire and the like are just imaginary figures of western cinema. What some people may see are the Jinn. However, a Muslim should have trust in Allaah and rely on Him, and he should not fear anything.
Imaam Muslim may Allaah have mercy upon him reported that Khawlah Bint Hakeem may Allaah be pleased with her narrated that she heard the Prophet sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam saying:
"Whoever lands in a place and says:
أَعـوذُ بِكَلِـماتِ اللّهِ التّـامّاتِ مِنْ شَـرِّ ما خَلَـق
"'I seek refuge in Allaah's perfect Words from the evil He has created', nothing will harm him until he leaves that place." (Muslim 4/2080)
•• ► EATING 3 OF ANYTHING (3 FISH STICKS, 3 BREADS, 3 APPLES,ETC.) AT THE SAME TIME, WILL DISABLE GIRLS TO HAVE BABIES.
Eating any number of food items at the same time has absolutely no implications on the birth or anything else; the above is nothing but a superstition, and superstitions have absolutely no place in the deen of Islam!
Allah Says in the Holy Quran Chapter 42 Surah Shuraa verses 49-50:
49 To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. He creates what He wills (and plans). He bestows (children) male or female according to His Will (and Plan).
50 Or He bestows both males and females, and He leaves barren whom He will: for He is Full of knowledge and power.
To believe that anything other than Allah Subhanahu wa taa'la Alone has control or power over the birth of children, is to share the Exclusive Powers of Allah Subhanau taa'la with someone or something else! The one who believes in such superstitions would be guilty of a manifestation of the heinous crime of ‘shirk’.
•• ► CALAMITY WILL FALL ON YOUR PETS RATHER THAN YOU IF YOU KEEP AND NURTURE THEM ??
There is no evidence in the noble Sunnah supporting this statement; rather, this is nothing but a superstition and not a reality.
However, among the most important means of repelling afflictions in one’s own self, money and family is supplication.
Thawbaan (radiAllahu 'anhu) narrated that the Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alyhi wa sallam) said:
►“Nothing increases one's lifespan except righteousness, and nothing repels predestination except Dua'a (supplication).”
[Sunan Ibn Maajah (89) and Silsilatul-Ahaadeethis-Saheehah (154)]
‘Uthmaan Ibn ‘Affaan may Allaah be pleased with him narrated that the Prophet (sallAllaahu 'alyhi wa sallam) said:
►“Whoever says at the beginning of his day or at the beginning of his night:
بِسْمِ اللهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ
BISMI ALLAAHI AL-LATHI LAA YADHURRU MA'A ISMIHI SHAY'UN FIL-ARDHI WALAA FIS-SAMAA'I WAHOWA AS-SAMEE' AL-'ALEEM
"In the Name of Allaah with whose name nothing on earth or in heaven can cause any harm, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing (three times), nothing will harm him on that day or that night."
["Whoever recites it three times in the morning will not be afflicted by any calamity before evening, and whoever recites it three times in the evening will not be overtaken by any calamity before morning." Abu Dawud 4/323, At-Tirmidhi 5/465, Ibn Majah 2/332,Abu Dawud 4/323, At-Tirmidhi 5/465, Ibn Majah 2/332]
•• ►MARRIAGE IN THE MONTHS OF MUHARRAM & SAFAR??
Every day, every month, every year belongs to Allah Subhanau taa'la Alone, and there is absolutely NO restriction whatsoever on the believers regarding the time of the day, or any day of the week, or any month of the year whereby it is discouraged, restricted or forbidden for them to contract a marriage.
Except when one is in the actual state of ‘ehraam’ for pilgrimage to the Sacred House, one is at absolute liberty to contract marriage at any time of the day, or any day of the week, or any month of the year at their convenience.
There is absolutely NO (no proof of) restriction in Islam if one chooses to contract marriage in the blessed month of Muharram, or during any other month of their year.
•• ►PEACOCK FEATHERS BRINGS SADNESS AND PROBLEMS, IT IS PURE SO NO IMPURE PERSON SHOULD TOUCH IT ???
It is completely permissible to keep peacock feathers and there is no evidence that this is not good.
Claiming that it brings sadness and problems in the house is an unfounded claim, and this is a superstition of the pre-Islamic era of ignorance.
Similarly, there is no evidence about the statement that these feathers are pure and that an impure person should not touch them.
This is taken from some beliefs of false religions. Moreover, being in a state of impurity only prevents one from touching the Mus-haf (the Arabic text of the Quran).
•• ► REPEATING CERTAIN NAMES & ATTRIBUTES OF ALLAH FOR A SPECIFIED NUMBER OF TIMES TO ACHIEVE SPECIFIC BENEFITS ??
One may call upon the Merciful Lord by any of the Noble & Beautiful Names & Attributes as one wills, and supplicate/make du'aa to Him in all humility; but to call upon a particular Name & Attribute & repeat it for a fixed number of times (like Tasbeeh) is NOT from the Sunnah or way of the Prophet salAllaho allaihi wa sallam.
Every dhikr that involves reciting a certain number of times, or in a certain place, or at a certain time, or in a certain manner, that is not prescribed in sharee’ah, is bid’ah.
Never ever did the Messenger of Allah salAllaho allaihi wa sallam repeat a particular Name or Attribute of Allah a certain fixed number of times, nor did he salAllaho allaihi wa sallam ever encourage the believers to do so. One may call upon or supplicate the Merciful Lord using His Noble Attributes any number of times one wills; but to fix a number of times to chant a particular 'Attribute', and believe that by chanting a certain Name or Attribute 'n' number of times a certain or particular thing will happen or will be given is absolutely AGAINST the guidance and teachings of the Messenger of Allah salAllaho allaihi wa sallam.
When the Messenger of Allah salAllaho allaihi wa sallam has not fixed any 'umoor' or count, it does not behove the believers to ascertain an 'umoor' from themselves; for that would indeed be an innovation in the deen brought by the Messenger of Allah salAllaho allaihi wa sallam.
Narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah (Radi Allahu 'anhu):
That the Prophet of Allah salAllaho allaihi wa sallam said in a sermon•► "The best speech is that which is embodied in the Book of Allah, the Al Quran; and the best guidance is the guidance given by me, Mohamed salAllaho allaihi wa sallam. The most evil affairs are the innovations, and every innovation is an error."
(Sahih Muslim Hadith 1885)
•• ► WEARING PRECIOUS STONES WITH THE BELIEF THAT THEY WILL PROTECT, BRING BENEFIT OR LUCK OR VICE VERSA ??
A Muslim must believe that benefit and harm are in the Hands of Allaah only. Therefore, he is obliged to rely and have trust in Allaah, and it is not permissible for him to follow the means which are not religiously legislated or approved.
Instead, there are supplications and legislated mention of Allaah that are sufficient to repel harms.
For those Muslims who believe that stones can benefit or harm anyone must know that It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbaas said: The Messenger of Allaah (sallAllahu 'alyhi wasallam) said:
“The Black Stone (al-Hajar al-Aswad) came down from Paradise.”
(Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 877; al-Nasaa’i, 2935. The hadeeth was classed as saheeh by al-Tirmidhi).
It was narrated that ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) came to the Black Stone and kissed it, then he said:
“I know that you are only a stone which can NEITHER BRING BENEFIT NOR CAUSE HARM. Were it not that I had seen the Prophet (sallAllahu 'alyhi wasallam) kiss you, I would not have kissed you.”
(Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1520; Muslim, 1720)
When al-Hajar al-Aswad which came from paradise cannot benefit or harm anyone, how is it possible that other stones are benefitting or harming anyone?
Allah is our witness , no stone, no stars, no lines in one palms, no nothing except Allah Subhanau Taa'la, our Lord, has the Power to bring about any good or harm on its own!
To believe that some stones (or anything else in creation) can bring about any good to someone in the ‘unseen’, or to believe some stones (or anything else) can save one from any harm, or some stones (or anything else) have the power by themselves to influence absolutely anything in one’s lives or one’s behavior, etc is a manifest act of disbelief and ‘shirk’! Nothing, absolutely nothing in the Universe has the Power or the Strength or the Ability to bring about any good or harm upon anyone in the ‘unseen’ except the Lord Most Majestic, Most Supreme Alone; thus the believers who sincerely fear Allah and the Last Day should keep their full trust and belief in Him and Him Alone.
•• ►CLAIMING THAT IF WE EAT FOOD AT THE TIME OF MAGHRIB PRAYER, OUR ANCESTORS WHO ARE DEAD CANNOT GET FOOD IN HEAVEN ??
Saying that the people in paradise would not find any food to eat if we eat our food at the time of Maghrib, is a false statement and a wrong belief. The food and supply of the people in Paradise is always abundant regardless of the changing of the season. Allaah says:
► "And by water flowing constantly. And fruit, abundant [and varied]. Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden." [56:32-33].
Imaam Ibn Katheer, may Allaah have mercy on him, commented on this verse saying:
'It means that their supply is never cut off neither in winter nor in summer. The eating of food and fruits is always constant; whenever they need it, they find it. Everything is at their disposal with the Power of Allaah.' Moreover, Allaah says:
►"The example [i.e. description] of Paradise, which the righteous have been promised, is [that] beneath it rivers flow. Its fruit is lasting, and its shade." [13:35].
This means that in it there is food, fruits and drinks without interruption and without end.
Ibn 'Abbaas, may Allaah be pleased with him, narrated that there was an eclipse at the time of the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, who with the companions, may Allaah be pleased with them, performed the eclipse prayer. After the prayer the companions told him, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam: "We saw you reaching to get something while in your prayer and then you stopped." Upon this he, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, said ► "I saw Paradise, and I touched a bunch of grapes. Had I took it, you would have eaten from it until the Day of Judgement."
[Al-Bukhaari and Muslim]
Therefore, the food of the people of Paradise is not cut off or interrupted because the people eat at the time of Maghrib or for any other reason. This is nothing but a superstition that has no foundation in religion.
•• ►HAZAAZAH FOR THE CHILD WHO HAS HICCUPS / WEARING BEADS OR STRINGS OR HORSE SHOES OR BLUE EYES TO WARD OFF HARM ???
Some people collect any amount of money, whatever it is, from seven people whose name has to be Muhammad, and they take it to a blacksmith to make what they call hazaazah, which they then place on the child’s clothes to take away the hiccups.
It comes under the ruling on amulets which they believe can bring benefit and ward off harm, and they are things which are worn such as beads, strings, horse shoes, blue eyes, “hands of Fatima” and many other things which they believe can bring good and benefit or ward off evil and harm.
It was narrated that ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah (blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him) say:
►“Ruqyah, amulets and love charms are shirk.”
Narrated by Abu Dawood (3883) and Ibn Majaah (3530): classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh Abi Dawood.
The ruling on the use of amulets including wearing of hazaazah is that the one who acquires them or wears them, if he believes that they are a cause of bringing benefits and warding off harm and that benefit and harm are in the hand of Allaah, then he has fallen into minor shirk, because he has made something that is not a means into a means.
If he believes that it can bring benefit or cause harm in and of itself, then he has fallen into major shirk.
What anyone who has taken anything of that nature or anything like it must do is get rid of it and repent to Allaah.
It was narrated from Abu Basheer al-Ansaari (may Allaah be pleased with him) that he was with the Messenger of Allaah (blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him) on one of his journeys, and the people were at their places of rest. The Messenger of Allaah (blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him) sent a messenger (saying):
►“No camel is to be left among any group of people with a garland of sinew or a garland, but it is to be cut off.”
Narrated by al-Bukhaari (2843) and Muslim (2115).
Shaykh Muhammad ibn Saalih al-‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:
His words: “a garland of sinew or a garland” – the narrator was not sure, but the former is more likely, because garlands were made from sinew, and they believed that that could ward off the evil eye from the camels. This is a false belief, because it is placing one’s hope in a thing that is not a means or a cause. We have seen above that placing one’s hope in things that are not shar’i or tangible means or causes is shirk, because by placing his hope in them he is believing in them as means when Allaah has not made them means, whether by His law or by His decree. Hence the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him) ordered that these garlands be cut.
Majmoo’ Fataawa al-Shaykh al-‘Uthaymeen (9/169)
•• ► THE CLAIM THAT ONE SHOULD NOT SEE THE SETTING SUN, BUT THAT IT IS OKAY TO SEE THE RISING SUN ???
There is absolutely nothing in the Glorious Quran or the authentic and established Sunnah which prohibits or discourages the believers from seeing the setting or the rising sun. This is just an idiotic logic of the Mushriks that the scene of setting sun will affect your life and we do not believe in such fake stuffs. If one trusts, obeys, and follows the guidance and commands of Allah and His Messenger (saws), one can be assured of never ever being misled; but if one believes, obeys and follows any other guidance, other than that of Allah and His Messenger (sallAllahu ályhi wasallam), one can be assured of being led astray.
Allaah says:
►“And among mankind is he who worships Allaah as it were upon the edge (i.e. in doubt): if good befalls him, he is content therewith; but if a trial befalls him he turns back on his face (i.e. reverts to disbelief after embracing Islam). He loses both this world and the Hereafter”
[al-Hajj 22:11]
•• ► CLAIMING THAT WOMEN MUST WEAR HIJAB ALL THE TIME EVEN WHEN THEY ARE ALONE AT HOME OR WITH MAHRAMS ???
There is a misconception among the Muslims that women must wear hijab even when she is at home. However, there is no Islamic rulings or etiquette that enjoins the woman to wear hijab when she is on her own in the house or with her husband and other mahram men.
In the Glorious Qur'an Allah orders the believing women to wear hijab or cover themselves, hide their beauty and guard their modesty.
•►"And tell the believing women reduce some of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except only that which (necessarily) appears thereof and to wrap their head covers over their chests and not expose their adornment ( i.e., beauty)..." (Surah An Nur, 24:31)
But Allah out of His divine wisdom and precision EXEMPTED women from the ruling’s observance before specific categories of people…which He continues to state in the same verse of Hijab [above] in Surah An Nur by saying •►,“…except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband’s fathers, their sons, their husband’s sons, their brothers or their brother’s sons, or their sister’s sons, or their women, that which their right hands possess ( i.e slaves), or those male attendants having no physical desire, or children who are not yet aware of the private aspects of women …”(24:31)
And some as mentioned in the hadiths of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) are the brothers of parents, the daughter’s husband and those related by nursing. Wherever fathers are mentioned, it includes grandfathers, great grandfathers, grandsons, great grandsons, etc., as far down as they exist. The uncle’s son is not a mahram relative since marriage to him is not prohibited. Neither are the sister’s husband or the husband’s brother and uncle.
Al-Manaawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
As for putting on perfume and adorning oneself for one’s husband, it is required and recommended. Some of the scholars said: The wife’s adorning herself and putting on perfume for her husband are among the strongest causes of love and harmony between them and keeps dislike and resentment at bay, because the eye is the way to the heart, so if the eye sees something and likes it, it goes straight to the heart and thus love is generated. If it looks at something ugly or something that it does not like of clothing or garments, it will go to the heart and thus resentment and hatred will be generated. Hence the Arab women used to advise one another: Beware of letting your husband see you in a way that he does not like or smell something from you that he finds off-putting.
Fayd al-Qadeer, 3/190
If a woman wears hijab at home and with her husband, this will prevent her from a lot of adornment and beautification. Islam encourages the woman to adorn herself and beautify herself for her husband, and women are created with a natural inclination towards adornment and beauty, as Allah, may He be exalted, says:
►“(Like they then for Allaah) a creature who is brought up in adornments (wearing silk and gold ornaments, i.e. women), and who in dispute cannot make herself clear?”
[al-Zukhrif 43:18].
Hence, it is not logical to put restrictions on something that Allah has made broad in scope. A woman’s wearing hijab in her husband’s house or her own house is not something that is indicative of higher levels of faith, it is not one of the things that bring barakah to the home, and it is not part of the etiquette that is encouraged in Islam.
The sign of faith is adhering to the laws of Allah; barakah is attained by following the commands of Islam and keeping away from dubious matters.
To sum up,
►►The dress code for a believing woman in Shariah is not prescribed for what is lawful to wear inside/outside one’s home; but rather Islam guides towards the attire of the believing women she is to adorn when in the presence of mahrams and non-mahram members of the opposite sex.
If the believing woman is amongst only womenfolk, and/or children, and/or her mehram male relatives, regardless of whether she is at home or outside her home, she is not obliged to cover herself in the ‘hijaab’.
But if the believing woman is amongst non-mehram members of the opposite sex, regardless of whether she is at her home or outside, she is Commanded by her Lord to cover herself completely in the prescribed ‘hijaab’.
•• ► MEN SHOULD NOT PUT PERFUMES BECAUSE IT MIGHT ATTRACT JINNS AND ESPECIALLY FEMALE JINNS ???
It is desirable for men to use perfume as long as this perfume is not customarily known to be used by women. The following narration proves the desirability of using perfume by men. The Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, said: "In this worldly life two things have been made dear to me, women and perfume, and prayer is the comfort of my eyes."
We know of no proof that perfume attracts jinn and this seems to be just superstition because Allaah legislated for us the use of perfume and encouraged it. Even if perfume has such an impact that it attracts jinn, a Muslim should not stop using perfume out of fear from jinn (just because he fears jinn). A Muslim should protect himself by mentioning Allaah all the time whether he uses perfume or not because when a Muslim mentions Allaah he is protected from Satan who is Allaah’s enemy. In a long narration the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, reported that Prophet Yahya, may Allaah exalt his mention, said to his people
"A slave can only protect himself from Satan by mentioning Allaah."
If a Muslim is afflicted by what he thinks to be a jinn, he should seek refuge with Allaah and keep mentioning Him more and more.
And Allaah alone Knows best.
•• ►MOVING, SHAKING OR DANGLING LEGS WHILE LYING OR SITTING??
There is nothing in Islam regarding facing bad luck or misfortune while shaking or dangling legs . That is nothing but superstition followed by our forefathers.
Nothing absolutely nothing happens without the Will of Allah and just mere shaking of legs cannot bring any good or evil. If there was any harm in doing this act, RasoolAllaah (sallAllahu allaihi wasallam) would have informed us about it to save us from the harm.
And Allaah alone Knows best.
•• ►THE CLAIM THAT MOLES ARE SIGN OF FORTUNE, REMOVING THEM CAN CAUSE ACCIDENTS???
It is not permissible to be pessimistic due to removing the mole as this is a kind of Shirk [associating partners to Allaah]. What Allaah did not legislate to be a means (of achieving a given objective), it is not permissible to take it as a means.
Indeed, the death of anyone has nothing to do with the issue of removing the mole; each person will die according to his appointed time.
Therefore, if one is in need of removing the mole, then one may do so with courage while relying on Allaah and having full trust in Him, acting on the Saying of Allaah (which means):
Say, “Never will we be struck except by what Allaah has decreed for us; He is our protector.” And upon Allaah let the believers rely.
[Quran 9:51]
Moreover, we should know that the whispers which we might have are from the devil, so we should not take them into consideration and we should seek refuge in Allaah from them.
The best thing by which a Muslim may protect himself from falling prey to such superstitions is by seeking religious knowledge taken from the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of the Prophet salAllaho allaihi wa sallam.
•• ►THE CLAIM THAT SAINTS, MAULVIS, BABAS AND PIOUS PEOPLE SPEAK TO DEAD ONES WHILE THEY ARE AWAKE???
A dead person cannot come out of the grave nor their soul can come and speak so that people can see it, this is impossible in this worldly life and occurs only on the Day of resurrection. Allaah the Almighty Says:
►"And the Horn will be blown; and at once from the graves to their Lord they will hasten."
[Quran 36:51]
Ibn Hazm, may Allaah have mercy upon him, stated that there is consensus that Muhammad, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, and his Companions will not return to this worldly life until they are resurrected along with all other people.
Whoever claims that they have seen or spoken to a dead person is mistaken and imagining this because Satan has configured himself and appeared before him. This is not considered a supernatural ability but a fable and superstition. Although the Companions of the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, were strong allies of Allaah the Almighty, none of them reported seeing the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, or meeting him, Abu Bakr or Umar, may Allaah be pleased with them, after their deaths, although they greatly longed for and loved the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam.
Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allaah have mercy upon him, explained that such a vision in a dream may be from Allaah the Almighty and thus true, but it also may be from Satan, because he can appear in dreams or otherwise as a person who can be seen and misleads people of little knowledge and faith. This has happened to many Indian polytheists and to others who see their dead returning to life, repaying debts, returning deposits and informing them about the dead, but it is only Satan taking the form of the deceased. Also, he may appear in the form of a righteous honored person saying, "I am so and so," although he is Satan. This has happened to many monks and also to other people who were followers of Islam. People may see in their waking, for example, someone saying that they are the Prophet Ibraaheem, Moosaa, or Eesaa (Abraham, Moses, Jesus), may Allaah exalt their mention, or Muhammad, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam. He might also say that he is a companion or disciple of the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, or be seen flying in the air. This is all from the devil, and not a real person.
However the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, explained that whoever sees him in a dream has actually seen him, because Satan does not appear in this form. [Ahmad and Muslim] Thus, seeing the Prophet, sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam, in a dream is a true vision.
Some people may believe they see a prophet near his grave or in another place, or a human figure coming out from a splitting grave, which makes the person believe that the deceased is actually arising or that his spirit has materialized and come from the grave. In these cases it is a Jinn who has appeared like the dead in order to lead the person astray. Such things happen to many who claim to be Muslims, to the People of the Book and to polytheists. Many people believe that these are the supernatural abilities of the righteous slaves of Allaah the Almighty, but they are merely the misguidance of Satan.
And Allaah alone Knows best.
•• ►NOT GETTING A HAIR CUT ON WEDNESDAY OR NOT CUTTING NAILS ON SATURDAY??
Except when one is in the actual state of ‘ehraam’ for pilgrimage where it is forbidden for the ‘muhrim’ to cut their hair or clip their nails, the believers are at absolute liberty to cut their hair or their nails whichever time of the day or night, and whichever day or night of the week they will and please or is convenient for them.
Any person who invents such restrictions upon the believers which are not specifically endorsed by Allah and His Messenger (saws) should be asked to provide the proof for their prohibitions from the Glorious Quran and the Sunnah and if they are unable to provide the evidence for their self-invented restrictions, and we absolutely assure you that there are none, then one should know with absolute conviction that such self-invented restrictions are a figment of their imagination and have absolutely nothing to do with the Truth and Islam.
Allah Says in the Glorious Qur' an:
►"But say not for any false thing that your tongues may put forth "This is lawful and this is forbidden" so as to ascribe false things to Allah. For those who ascribe false things to Allah will never prosper. (In such falsehood) might be but a paltry profit; but they will have a most Grievous Penalty! (16:116-117)
Only Allah and His Messenger (sallAllahu 'alyhi wasallam) have the exclusive right to declare what is ‘halaal’ (lawful) and what is ‘haraam’ (prohibited) to the believers. Those who have invented such restrictions have done so without any right or authority from Allah Subhanau taa'la or His Messenger (sallAllahu 'alyhi wasallam) and are guilty of the heinous crime of inventing a falsehood and attributing it to Allah and His Messenger (sallAllahu 'alyhi wasallam)!
Allah Ta'ala says:
►"And who is more unjust than one who invents about Allah untruth while he is being invited to Islam. And Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people." (61:7)
► "Who is more unjust than one who invents a lie against Allah or rejects his Signs?" (7:37)
► "And who does more wrong than he who invents a lie against Allah or rejects the Truth when it reaches Him? Is there not a home in Hell for those who reject faith?" (29:68)
And Allaah alone Knows best.
•• ►No menstruating women should enter upon a woman who just gave birth and is still in the state of nifaas or postpartum bleeding???
Some ignorant people believe that after giving birth, when the woman is still in the state of nifaas or postpartum bleeding, no other woman should enter upon her who has her monthly period, because that will prevent her from HAVING CHILDREN again.
It was narrated from ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Mas’ood that the Messenger of Allaah (blessings and peace of Allaah be upon him) said:
►“Tiyarah (superstitious belief in bird omens) is shirk.”
(Narrated by Abu Dawood (3910) and classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah (429))
Reality shows this myth to be false. Menstruating women often enter upon women who are in nifaas, to congratulate them or to uphold ties of kinship and that never prevented the woman from giving birth again.
There is no harm in visiting; rather this is just an illusion and myth which is in circulation among the common folk, as well as ignorance of Tawheed and of Islamic teachings, and it is their lack of common sense.
We ask Allaah to set the affairs of the Muslims straight.
And Allaah alone knows best.
•• ► ATTACHED TOILET AND BATHROOM ???
There is nothing in the Glorious Quran or the authentic and established Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu 'alyhi wasallam) which prohibits the believers to build or live in a house which has an attached bathroom. However, it is one's own choice to build either separate or attached.
People who claim that it is prohibited in Islam for the believers to build or live in a house which has an attached bathroom should be asked to provide an evidence for the prohibition from the Quran and the Sunnah.
And Allaah alone knows best.
•• ►Do Muslims suffer from Trials in the month of Safar???
Narrated by Abu Huraira, Allah's Messenger (sallAllahu 'alyhi wasallam) said:
‘(There is) no 'Adwa (no contagious disease is conveyed without Allah's permission), nor is there any bad omen (from birds), nor is there any Hamah, nor is there any bad omen in the month of Safar, and one should run away from the leper as one runs away from a lion.'' (Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 7.608)
In the days of ignorance before the advent of Islam, the pagans used to believe that the month of Safar was a difficult month and that it carried evil omens with the advent of Islam and the Truth, the Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu 'alyhi wasallam) clarified that no day or no month carries any evil omens and declared such self-invented superstitions and false beliefs absolutely baseless.
Every day, every week, every month, every year belongs to Allah Subhanau Taa'la, and there is no day, or week, or month or year which in itself is inherently evil or tough or brings with it evil omens or bad luck, these are absolute superstitions based on absolute falsehoods and the believers are guided to fear Allah Subhanau Taa'la and His Day of Tribunal rather than such self-invented and absolute falsehoods.
And Allaah alone knows best.
•• ►CLAIMING THAT IT IS UNLAWFUL TO EAT ONIONS AT NIGHT??
Onion in its essence is absolutely lawful for the believers to consume as food, regardless of whether they wish or choose to consume it during the day or the night. What is discouraged and prohibited is that if one eats raw or uncooked onions, one should not approach the masjids of Allah until they have thoroughly cleansed their breath, because its vile odor is repugnant not only to humans but also to the noble Angels of Allah Subhanau taa'la.
Jabir (radiAllahu anhu) reports that the Prophet (sallAllahu alyhi wasallam) said:
"Whoever eats garlic, onion, or leek should not come close to our masjid for the Angels are harmed by what harms the children of Adam."
(Related by Bukhari and Muslim)
Narrated by Mu'awiyah ibn Qurrah (radiAllahu anhu):
The Messenger of Allah (sallAllahu alyhi wasallam) disliked these two plants (i.e. garlic and onions), and he (sallAllahu alyhi wasallam) said:
‘He who eats them should not come near our masjid. If it is necessary to eat them, make them (their odor) dead by cooking them.’
(Sunan of Abu-Dawood Hadith 3818)
Narrated by Jabir bin Abdullah Radi Allahu anhu)
The Prophet (sallAllahu alyhi wasallam) said,
"Whoever eats garlic or onion should keep away from our masjid." Jabir bin 'Abdullah (radiAllahu anhu) said, "Once a big pot containing cooked vegetables was brought. On finding unpleasant smell coming from it, the Prophet (sallAllahu alyhi wasallam) asked, 'What is in it?' He (sallAllahu alyhi wasallam) was told all the names of the vegetables that were in it. The Prophet (sallAllahu alyhi wasallam) ordered that it should be brought near to some of his companions who were with him. When the Prophet saw it he disliked to eat it and said to his companions, '(You may) Eat. (I don't eat it) for I converse with those whom you don't converse with (i.e. the Angels).'")
(Sahih Al-Bukhari Hadith 1.814)
And Allaah alone knows best.
•• ►CLAIMING THAT ONE SHOULD AVOID SEEING THE MOON ON THE 3RD NIGHT OF THE LUNAR MONTH AND IT IS OKAY TO SEE IT ON THE 2ND NIGHT, THE 4TH NIGHT, AND THE OTHER NIGHTS???
There is nothing in the Quran or the authentic and established Sunnah which even remotely implies that the believers are prohibited or discouraged to see the moon on the 3rd night or any other night of a month! One is at absolutely liberty to look at the moon, enjoy its beauty and glorify its Creator whenever one wills and pleases.
And Allaah alone knows best.
•• ►Getting married in Shawwaal
It was said that it was called after the drying up of the camels’ milk (tashweel), when it becomes scanty. This is what happens to the camels when the heat becomes intense and there are no longer any dates on the palm trees… The Arabs were superstitious about getting married at that time, and they would say that the bride would keep away from her groom like the female camel when she has been impregnated and lifted (shaalat) her tail. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) declared their superstition to be false.
‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) married me in Shawwaal and consummated the marriage with me in Shawwaal, and which of his wives was more favoured by him than me?”
(Narrated by Ahmad in al-Musnad, 6/54; this version narrated by him. Also narrated by Muslim in his Saheeh, 2/1039, Kitaab al-Nikaah, hadeeth no. 1423. Also narrated al-Tirmidhi in his Sunan, 2/277, Abwaab al-Nikaah, hadeeth no. 1099; he said it is a saheeh hasan hadeeth. Also narrated by al-Nasaa’i in his Sunan, 6/70, Kitaab al-Nikaah, Baab al-Tazweej fi Shawwaal. Also narrated by Ibn Maajah in his Sunan, 1/641, Kitaab al-Nikaah, hadeeth no. 1990. (Lisaan al-‘Arab, 11/277, heading Shawwaal).
The reason why the Arabs of the Jaahiliyyah were so superstitious about marrying during Shawwaal was that they believed that a woman would keep away from her husband like the she-camel that has lifted (shawwalat) its tail after being impregnated keeps away from the he-camel.
Ibn Katheer (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:
“The fact that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) consummated his marriage with ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her) during Shawwaal was a refutation of the notions that some people held, that it was disliked to consummate a marriage between the two Eids, lest that lead to separation of the spouses. But that was a false notion.”
(al-Bidaayah wa’l-Nihaayah, 3/253)
Being superstitious about getting married in Shawwaal is the matter of falsehood, because superstition in general is part of the “evil omen” (tiyarah) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade when he said,
“There is no contagion and no evil omen.”
(Sharh Saheeh Muslim li’l-Nawawi, 14/219, 218).
And he (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) Said,
“Tiyarah (believing in evil omens) is shirk.”
(Narrated by Imaam Ahmad in his Musnad, 1/440. Also narrated by Abu Dawood in his Sunan, 4/230, Kitaab al-Tibb, hadeeth no. 3910)
Al-Nawawi (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in his commentary on the hadeeth of ‘Aa’ishah (may Allaah be pleased with her): “This indicates that it is mustahabb to get married and to consummate the marriage in Shawwaal. Our companions [fellow-scholars] have stated that this is mustahabb, quoting this hadeeth as evidence for that.”
By saying this, ‘Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) was aiming to refute the ignorant belief of the Jaahiliyyah, and what some of the common folk still believe today, that it is makrooh to get married or to consummate the marriage in Shawwaal. This is false and there is no basis for this belief. It is one of the leftovers of the Jaahiliyyah, when they used to be superstitious about that because of the connations of the name of Shawwaal which related to the drying up of the camel’s milk and the lifting of its tail…”
(Sharh Saheeh Muslim li’l-Nawawi, 9/209)
And Allaah alone knows best.
•• ►OWL BRINGS MISFORTUNE AND PESSIMISM, AND THAT THE TURTLE BRINGS GOODNESS
There is no evidence that the owl brings misfortune and pessimism, and that the turtle brings goodness, rather this is a superstition and a deviation in creed; and it is feared that whoever believes in this is committing an act of disbelief. It is confirmed that the Prophet (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) said:
►"Seeing a bad omen is Shirk (disbelief)."
[Abu Daawood, An-Nasaa’ee, At-Tirmithi and Ibn Maajah]
Seeing a bad omen is being pessimistic about something and it is a practice of the people of the pre-Islamic era. Some people even believe that if you throw a stone on Owl and if the Owl catches it then the Owl will rub the stone near a sea shore until it gets finished off; in the process of finishing up of the stone by the Owl, the person who threw the stone will eventually become weak and he may die. This is nothing but a superstitious story made by some mentally disturbed people. If Owl had such powers, every person would have trained their pet owls to rub the stones on their enemy names and almost half of the population of this world would have been finished.
All matters are in the Hands of Allaah, and the owl or the turtle does not have any role in this.
And Allaah alone Knows best.
