And also I have a question, is there any possibility that any type of magic have been done on my brother, as he has been my inspiration towards rightiousness of ous deen and now he is far away from It. Please help. Jazakallah

Answer:

Your question is divided into 4 parts.

Part 1: sitting at home not working and using Islam's excuse to do so.

Part 2: Not fulfilling obligatory islamic duties

Part 3: Harming the parents

Part 4: The possibility of magic or evil eye

Part 1: sitting at home not working and using Islam's excuse to do so.

I am very happy to read how you began your question by acknowledging that he is opposing or moving away from Islam. Because in this time and day when minute fractions abuse and misuse islam to fulfil their own desires, falsely citing islam as an excuse to justify their actions.

lets begin quoting the opinions and fatawa from the pious predecessors:

Mua`wiya Ibn Qurra said: `Umar Ibn al-Khattab (radhiallahu `anhu) met some (jobless) people from Yemen, and asked them: "Who are you?,

They said: 'We are al-Mutawakkilun' (those who put their trust in Allah), he told them: 'You are al-Muta 'akilun (the rusty), (as)  al-Mutawakkil is the one who first ploughs his land and then puts his trust on Allah"

Imam ibn Qayyim rahimahullah said:

"There are those who ask why they should ask about anything when everything is already determined. Then we ask them why they should eat when they become hungry when it already is determined that he will eat? These are more misguided than the animals, even the animals take means to achieve something."

[Ref: his book ad-Da' wad-dawa , p.18]

Imam Ahmad [bin Hanbal] was asked about a man who sits in his house or in the masjid (engaging in prayer/dua/etc) and says, ‘I will not do any work until my provision comes to me,’

so he said, ‘This man is ignorant of knowledge, for the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Verily Allah has made my provision under the shade of my spear,” and he said, ‘If you were to exercise al-tawakkal upon Allah with the reliance which He is due, then He would provide for you just as He provides for the birds: they go out hungry in the morning and return full in the evening.” So he mentioned that they (work hard and) go out in the morning to return in the evening in the pursuit of provision. And the sahaabah used to strive and work in the date-palm fields and we have a (good) example in them.”

[Ref: Fath al-Bari under 9675]

Abdullaah Ibn Mas’ood (radiallahu `anhu): “Indeed, I hate to see a man totally free, not doing anything from the work of the life of this world nor the Hereafter.”

[Ref: Imam abu nu`aym's book Al-Hilyah 1/130]

Part 2: Not fulfilling obligatory islamic duties

The Prophet said: (In a dream, I saw someone) whose head was being crushed with a stone (and he) was the one who learnt the Qur’an but never acted on it, and slept ignoring the compulsory prayers.

[Ref: Saheeh Bukhari 1143]

1257- Abu ‘Aasim informed us, from Ibn Juraij, Abu Al-Jubair narrated to us that he heard Jabir saying: or Jabir said:  Messenger of Allah (sallalahu `alayhi wa sallam)said: Between person and Polytheism or Infidelity there is difference of leaving prayer

[Ref: Sunan darimi 1257]

Abdullah ibn Amr reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, mention prayer one day and he said, “Whoever guards his prayers will have light and clarity and salvation on the Day of Resurrection. Whoever does not guard his prayers will not have light nor clarity nor salvation, and on the Day of Resurrection he will be with Qarun and Firaun and Haman and Ubay ibn Khalaf.”

[Ref: Musnad Ahmad 6540]

"But there came after them successors who neglected prayer and pursued desires; so they are going to meet evil -" [19:59]

Imam al-Qurtubi, in his book of tafsir, concludes his discussion on the neglecting of prayer by writing:

[وجملة القول هذا الباب أن من لم يحافظ على كمال وضوئها وركوعها وسجودها فليس بمحافظ عليها، ومن لم يحافظ عليها فقد ضيعها، ومن ضيعها فهو لما سواها أضيع، كما أن من حافظ عليها حفظ الله عليه دينه، ولا دين لمن لا صلاة له. ]

"To summarize this issue, whoever does not guard and preserve the perfection and completeness of the prayer's ablution, its bowing, and its prostration, then he is not a preserver of the prayer. And whoever does not preserve it, then he neglects it, and whoever neglects it, then it is the same as if he has lost it. Similarly, whoever is fastidious in maintaining his prayers, Allah protects and preserves his deen. And there is no deen for the one who has no salaah.

[Ref: Jaami' li-Ahkam al-Qur'an 11/47]

Part 3: Harming the parents

Your brother should realise that the sin of harming the parents is a major sin whose consequences are severe both in this world and hereafter. If an adult son or daughter disobeys and becomes the cause of tension and pain for his elderly parents due to his actions then this is a very severe thing to do. May allah make us among dutiful children

The Messenger of Allah said: “There are three at whom Allah will not look on the Day of Resurrection: The one who disobeys/disrespects his parents,....And there are three who will not enter Paradise: The one who disobeys his parents, ....‘

[Ref: Sunan an-Nasai,Vol. 3, Book 3, Hadith 2563]

`Umar ibn khattab (r.a) said among the major actions are:  ....and causing one’s parents to weep through disobedience.’ Ibn ‘Umar then said to me, ‘Do you wish to separate yourself from the Fire? Would you like to enter Paradise?’ ‘By Allah, yes!’ I replied. He asked, ‘Are your parents still alive?’ I replied, ‘My mother is.’ He said, ‘By Allah, if you speak gently to her and feed her, then you will enter the Garden as long as you avoid the major wrong actions.’”

[Ref: Adab al Mufrad Book 1, Hadith 8]

Abu bakra radhiallahu `anhu narrated that the prophet (sallalahu `alayhi wa sallam) was reported to have said: " Allah may forgive whatsoever sins (one commits) among the (various types of ) sins except disobedience (disloyalty, ungratefulness) towards the parents. Rather he inflicts the punishment (for it) in this world (itself) before (the disobedient child’s) death"

[Ref: Mustadrak Al-Haakim, Mishkat al-Masaabeh (4945) and elsewhere, da`eef]

Part 4: The possibility of magic or evil eye

the information you gave is insufficient to determine if this is a case of magic or not. So far from whatever little you have informed us via your question all we can say is that common sense needs to be knocked into him. Be it via your parents, via yourself or family members and friends. Anyone else who can come in handy and is a well wisher of your family, who won't misuse the situation and make it all the more worse - can be asked for help.

his actions are wrong both from an Islamic point of view as well as wordily. However, a muslim should always recite the specific du`as to protect him from evil eye and bad calamity. Here is a link you can refer to for these du`as: https://the-finalrevelation.blogspot.com/2012/07/duas-to-protect-from-evil-eye-buri.html

But if in case there is an element of magic, then the entire scenario changes. You will have to cooperate with a good god-fearing raaqi who sticks to qur'an and sunnah and doesn't involve himself with unislamic practises (such as amulets, not adhering to islamic hijab, using other jinns for help etc) or methods for curing someone under jinn possession/magic influence.

for starters you can begin by reciting surah baqrah in your house loudly either using an audio player or a home theatre system or whatever you have of a bluetooth speaker etc. such that surah baqrah echoes throughout the entire house. The best method is to loudly recite it personally for three days but if that cannot be done then a cheap alternative is to play it loudly using one of the speakers for atleast 3 days - say 6-8 hours per day.

surah baqrah + aale imran

It was narrated from al-Nu’maan ibn Basheer (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah inscribed a book two thousand years before He created the heavens and the earth, from which the last two aayahs of Soorat al-Baqarah were revealed. If they are recited for three nights, no shaytaan (devil)will remain in the house)

[Ref: Narrated by al-Tirmidhi, 2882. This hadeeth was classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami’, 1799]
