SOME BEAUTIFUL METHODS TO REPENT AND ERASE OUR SINS
It is reported that Talq b. Habîb – Allâh have mercy on him – said, “The right of Allâh is too great and heavy for the creation to fulfill and the blessings of Allâh are too many to enumerate, but you should remain repentant, morning and evening.” [Ibn Abî Al-Dunyâ, Al-Tawbah article 62.]
The prophet (sallalahu `alayhi wa sallam) said : "Glad tidings to those who find a lot of seeking forgiveness in the record of their deeds"
[Ref: Sunan Ibn Majah 3818, Hasan]
WILL ALLAH FORGIVE OUR SINS? EVEN IF THEY ARE TOO MANY?
From Ibn Abbas -Radhi Allaahu anhu- said who said that the Messenger of Allaah -sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam- said: that Allaah Azza wa Jal said:
من علم أني ذو قدرة على مغفرة الذنوب غفرت له و لا أبالي ما لم يشرك بي شيئا
‘Whoever knows that I have the capability to forgive sins, then I will forgive him and not care, as long as he did not associate anything with Me.’
[Collected by Tabrani and Albaani declared it to be Hasan in Saheeh al-Jamia no. 4330]
Ibn Mas'ud narrated that the Prophet said:
“Indeed, Allah is more happy with the repentance of His slave than a man who stops in a barren, desolate land; with him he has his riding animal. He then goes to sleep. When he wakes up, [he realizes that] his mount is gone. He searches for it until he is on the verge of dying. He then says, ‘I will return to the place wherein I lost it, and I will die there.’ He went to that place, and he was then overcome by sleep. When he woke up, his mount was [standing] right beside his head: on it was his food, his drink, his provisions, and the things he neded. Allah is more happy with the repentance of his believing slave than the aforementioned man when he finds his mount and his provisions.”
Anas (RA) said that he heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) say: “ALLAH the Exalted said: “O son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me, and ask of Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I would forgive you. O son of Adam were you to come to me with sins nearly as great as the earth, and were you then to face me, ascribing no partner to Me, I would bring you forgiveness nearly as great as it (earth).’

“and My Mercy embraces all things” [al-A’raaf 7:156]
{Say: O My slaves (humankind) who have transgressed against themselves! Despair not of the mercy of Allah Who forgives all sins. Lo! He is the Forgiving, the Merciful} (Az-Zumar 39:53)
The Prophet said, "When Allah created the creatures, He wrote in the Book, which is with Him over His Throne: "Verily, My Mercy prevailed over My Wrath." (Al-Bukhari)
In Saheeh Muslim it is narrated from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah has one hundred parts of mercy, of which He sent down one between the jinn, mankind, the animals and the insects, by means of which they are compassionate and merciful to one another, and by means of which wild animals are kind to their offspring. And Allaah has kept back ninety-nine parts of mercy with which to be merciful to His slaves of the Day of Resurrection.” [Muslim, al-Tawbah, 6908.]
It was narrated that ‘Umar ibn al-Khattaab said: “Some prisoners were brought to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and there was a woman among the prisoners who was searching (for her child). When she found her child she embraced him and put him to her breast. The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to us, ‘Do you think that this woman would throw her child in the fire?’ We said, ‘No, by Allaah, not if she is able not to.’ The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, ‘Allaah is more merciful to His slaves than this woman is to her child.’” [Agreed upon. Al-Bukhaari, 5653; Muslim, 6912.]
It is reported that a man came to ʿAlī – Allāh be pleased with him – and asked, "What do you think about a man who committed a sin?" He replied, "He must seek Allāh’s forgiveness and repent to Him." [The man] said, "He did that, but then sinned again?" [ʿAlī] said, "He must seek Allāh’s forgiveness and repent to Him." The man again said, "He did that, but returned to sin". [ʿAlī] said, "He must seek Allāh’s forgiveness and repent to Him." The man said for the fourth time, "He did, but then sinned again." ʿAlī then said, "Until when?" Then he said, "He must seek Allāh’s forgiveness and repent to Him; and not give up until it is Shayṭān who is defeated [overcome]."

Abu Musa reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, Allah the Exalted stretches out His Hand by night for those who repent until the coming of the day, and He stretches out His Hand by day for those who repent until the coming of the night; this is until the sun rises from the west.”

A quick summary - 10 pointers on how to have our sins forgiven
Shaykh al-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullaah) stated as occurs in Majmu' al-Fatawa (7/487-501):
The texts of the Book and the Sunnah have indicated that the punishment (due) for sins can be removed from the servant by around ten causes.
The first: Repentance, and this is agreed upon among the Muslims.
The second cause: Seeking forgiveness.
The third cause: Good deeds which wipe out (evil deeds).
The fourth cause: That which repels punishment, the supplication of the believers for a believer, such as praying over his funeral.
The fifth cause: What is done for the dead of righteous deeds such as charity and its likes.
The sixth cause: The intercession of the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) and others for the sinners on the Day of Judgement.
The seventh cause: Calamities by which Allaah expiates sins in the life of this world.
The eighth cause: What occurs in the grave of tribulation, compression and fear.
The ninth cause: The terrors of the Day of Judgement and the severity of its hardships.
The tenth: The mercy of Allaah, His pardon and forgiveness without any reason (necessitating that) from the servant. Comment
Note that three affairs come from a servant himself (repentance, seeking forgiveness, good deeds). Three affairs come from other than the servant (supplication, deeds of others which reach the dead and intercession). And three affairs are from the calamities (of life, the barzakh and the day of judgement) that expiate the sins. And after these nine matters, there is left but the pure mercy of Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic. In this is a refutation of the Kharijites who hold a person who dies with major sins (not having repented) is a disbeliever in the Fire forever, since expiation of sins can take place through other than repentance and seeking forgiveness, and exhausting those other means (which come from other than the servant himself), there still remains the pure mercy of Allaah, the Exalted. And this in itself indicates the great mercy of Allaah, the Sublime and Exalted in that He did not restrict and limit the causes of forgiveness to the servant himself.

Praying Salaat al-Tawbah (the prayer of repentance):
“I heard the Prophet sallAllâhu `alayhi wa sallam saying: ‘Allâh forgives the man who commits a sin (then feels ashamed), purifies himself, offers a prayer and seeks His forgiveness.’ Then he recited the ‘ayyah: ‘And those who, when they do an evil thing or wrong themselves, remember Allâh and implore forgiveness for their sins – and who can forgive sins except Allâh? – and will not knowingly repeat (the wrong) they did. The reward of such will be forgiveness from their Lord, and gardens underneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever- a bountiful reward for workers.”‘ [al-'lmrân: 135-136]. [Abû Dawûd, an-Nasa'i, Ibn Majah, al-Baihaqi, and at-Tirmidhî who calls it hasan.] Ali (r.a) heard the apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him) saying: When a servant (of Allah) commits a sin, and he performs ablution well, and then stands and prays two rak’ahs, and asks pardon of Allah, Allah pardons him. He then recited this verse: “And those who, when they commit indecency or wrong their souls, remember Allah” (3.135). [Sunan Abu Dawood (Book #8, Hadith #1516) also, Sunan al-TirmidhI (Vol. 1, Book 2, Hadith 406)] Note: One must hurry to repent as soon as he realizes his sin and should not delay. |
Performing Wudhu
Narrated Abû Hurayrah radhiAllâhu `anhu: Allâh’s Apostle sallAllâhu `alayhi wa sallam said:
When a bondsman – a Muslim or a believer – washes his face (in course of ablution), every sin he contemplated with his eyes will be washed away from his face along with water, or with the last drop of water ; when he washes his hands, every sin they wrought will be effaced from his hands with the water, or with the last drop of water; and when he washes his feet, every sin towards which his feet have walked will be washed away with the water, or with the last drop of water, with the result that he comes out pure from all sins. [Sahîh Muslim] |
Narrated Uthmân ibn Affân radhiAllâhu `anhu:
The Messenger of Allâh sallAllâhu `alayhi wa sallam said: He who performed ablution well, his sins would come out from his body, even coming out from under his nails.[Sahîh Muslim] |
Performing Prayer
Narrated Uthmân ibn Affân radhiAllâhu `anhu: “I heard Allâh’s Apostle sallAllâhu `alayhi wa sallam say:
When the time for a prescribed prayer comes, if any Muslim performs ablution well and offers his prayer) with humility and bowing, it will be an expiation for his past sins, so long as he has not committed a major sin; and this applies to for all times.[Sahîh Muslim] |
Narrated Abû Huraira radhiAllâhu `anhu: “Allâh’s Apostle said,
“The congregational prayer of anyone amongst you is more than twenty (five or twenty seven) times in reward than his prayer in the market or in his house, for if he performs ablution completely and then goes to the mosque with the sole intention of performing the prayer, and nothing urges him to proceed to the mosque except the prayer, then, on every step which he takes towards the mosque, he will be raised one degree or one of his sins will be forgiven. The angels will keep on asking Allâh’s forgiveness and blessings for everyone of you so long as he keeps sitting at his praying place. The angels will say, ‘O Allâh, bless him! O Allâh, be merciful to him!’ as long as he does not do Hadath or a thing which gives trouble to the other.” The Prophet further said, “One is regarded in prayer so long as one is waiting for the prayer.” [Sahîh Al-Bukhari] |
Narrated Abû Hurayrah radhiAllâhu `anhu:
“The Messenger of Allâh sallAllâhu `alayhi wa sallam said: He who purified himself in his house, and then he walked to one of the houses of Allâh for the sake of performing a fard (obligatory act) out of the Fara’id (obligatory acts) of Allâh, both his steps (would be significant) as one of them would obliterate his sin and the second one would raise his status. [Sahîh Muslim] |
Attending the Jumu’ah Salâh
Narrated Abû Hurayrah radhiAllâhu `anhu: The Messenger of Allâh sallAllâhu `alayhi wa sallam said:
Five prayers and from one Friday prayer to (the next) Friday prayer is an expiation (of the sins committed in between their intervals) if major sins are not committed. [Sahîh Muslim] It was narrated from Aws bin Aws Ath-Thaqafi that :The Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said: "Whoever washes (ghassala) and performs ghusl, and comes early to the masjid and sits near the imam, is attentive and does not engage in idle talk, for every step he takes he will have (the reward of) a year's worth of good deeds, its fasting and Qiyam prayer." (Sahih) [Sunan al Nasa’ee – the book of Jumu’ah – Hadeeth no. Vol. 2, Book 14, Hadith 1399; Graded saheeh by Albaanee in Saheeh al-Nasa’ee (1397 and 1380); Saheeh al Jaami’ (6405)] |
Narrated by Salman Al Farsi radhiAllâhu `anhu: The Prophet sallAllâhu `alayhi wa sallam said,
“Whoever takes a bath on Friday, purifies himself as much as he can, then uses his (hair) oil or perfumes himself with the scent of his house (i.e any sort of perfume he has), then proceeds (for the Jumua prayer) and does not separate two persons sitting together (in the mosque), then prays as much as (Allâh has) written for him and then remains silent while the Imam is delivering the Khutba, his sins in-between the present and the last Friday would be forgiven.” [Sahîh Al-Bukhari] |
Doing good deeds
Narrated Ibn Masud radhiAllâhu `anhu: A man kissed a woman and then came to Allâh’s Apostle and told him of that, so this Divine Inspiration was revealed to the Prophet sallAllâhu `alayhi wa sallam:
“And offer Prayers perfectly at the two ends of the day, and in some hours of the night; (i.e. (five) compulsory prayers). Verily, the good deeds remove the evil deeds (small sins). That is a reminder for the mindful.” (Qur’aan : 11.114) The man said, Is this instruction for me only?” The Prophet said, “It is for all those of my followers who encounter a similar situation.” [Sahîh Al-Bukhari] |
Performing Umrah and Hajj
Narrated by Abû Huraira : The Prophet sallAllâhu `alayhi wa sallam said,
“Whoever performs Hajj for Allâh’s pleasure (in accordance to the method taught by the prophet) and does not have sexual relations with his wife, and does not do evil or sins then he will return (after Hajj free from all sins) as if he were born anew.” [Sahîh Al-Bukhari] |
Abdullah ibn Mas’ud radhiAllâhu `anhu narrated that the Prophet sallAllâhu `alayhi wa sallam said:
“Alternate between Hajj and ‘Umrah (regularly), for these two remove poverty and sins just as the blacksmith’s bellows removes all impurities from metals like iron, gold and silver. The reward for Hajj Mabrur is nothing short of Paradise.” [Nasa'i and Tirmidhi, who regards it a sound hadîth but some scholars have regarded parts of it as weak ] |
Narrated Abû Huraira radhiAllâhu `anhu: Allâh’s Apostle sallAllâhu `alayhi wa sallam said,
“(The performance of) ‘Umra is an expiation for the sins committed (between it and the previous one). And the reward of Hajj Mabrur (the one accepted by Allâh) is nothing except Paradise.” [Sahîh Al-Bukhari] |
Saying ‘Aamin’
Narrated by Abû Huraira radhiAllâhu `anhu: The Prophet sallAllâhu `alayhi wa sallam said,
“When the Imâm says ‘Amîn’, then you should all say Amîn’, for the angels say Amînat that time, and he whose Amîn coincides with the Amînof the angels, all his past sins will be forgiven.” [Sahîh Al-Bukhari] |
Fasting and performing prayers in the night of Qadr in Ramadân
Narrated by Abû Huraira radhiAllâhu `anhu: The Prophet sallAllâhu `alayhi wa sallam said,
“Whoever fasted the month of Ramadân out of sincere Faith (i.e. belief) and hoping for a reward from Allâh, then all his past sins will be forgiven, and whoever stood for the prayers in the night of Qadr out of sincere Faith and hoping for a reward from Allâh, then all his previous sins will be forgiven .” [Sahîh Al-Bukhari] |
Sending salutations on Prophet sallalahu 'alayhi wa sallam
Abû Talha Al Ansari radhiAllâhu `anhu said, “The Prophet, sallAllâhu `alayhi wa sallam, woke up one day cheerful and beaming. His companions exclaimed, ‘O Prophet of Allâh, you woke up today cheerful and beaming.’ He replied,
‘Yes! A messenger of Allâh, the Mighty and the Glorified, came to me and said, “If anyone from your ummah sends you a salutation, Allâh will record for him ten good deeds, wipe off ten of his sins, and raise him thereby ten degrees in rank, and He will return his salutation with a similar salutation”.‘ [Ahmad] Ibn Kathîr considers this a sound hadîth ] |
Being kind to animals
Narrated Abû Huraira radhiAllâhu `anhu: Allâh’s Apostle sallAllâhu `alayhi wa sallam said,
“While a man was walking he felt thirsty and went down a well and drank water from it. On coming out of it, he saw a dog panting and eating mud because of excessive thirst. The man said, ‘This (dog) is suffering from the same problem as that of mine. So he (went down the well), filled his shoe with water, caught hold of it with his teeth and climbed up and watered the dog. Allâh thanked him for his (good) deed and forgave him.” The people asked, “O Allâh’s Apostle! Is there a reward for us in serving (the) animals?” He replied, “Yes, there is a reward for serving any animate.”[Sahîh Al-Bukhari] |
Narrated Abû Huraira radhiAllâhu `anhu: Allâh’s Apostle sallAllâhu `alayhi wa sallam said,
“A prostitute was forgiven by Allâh, because, passing by a panting dog near a well and seeing that the dog was about to die of thirst, she took off her shoe, and tying it with her head-cover she drew out some water for it. So, Allâh forgave her because of that.” [Sahîh Al-Bukhari] |
Leaving the grey hair
Amr ibn Shu’aib related on the authority of his father from his grandfather that the Prophet sallAllâhu `alayhi wa sallam said,
“Do not pluck the grey hairs as they are a Muslim’s light. Never a Muslim grows grey in Islam except that Allâh writes for him, due to that, a good deed. And he raises him a degree. And he erases for him, due to that, one of his sins.” [Related by Ahmad, Abû Dawûd, at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasa'i and Ibn Majah] And Anas said, “We used to hate that a man should pluck out his white hairs from his head or beard.” [Sahîh Muslim] |
Some simple supplications through which we can erase our sins, Insha’Allâh!
Narrated Abû Huraira radhiAllâhu `anhu: Allâh’s Apostle said,
“Whoever says, ‘Subhan Allâh wa bihamdihi,’ one hundred times a day, will be forgiven all his sins even if they were as much as the foam of the sea.” [Sahîh Al-Bukhari] |
Narrated Abû Huraira radhiAllâhu `anhu: Allâh’s Apostle sallAllâhu `alayhi wa sallam said,
“Whoever says: ‘La ilaha illal-lah wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahu-l-mulk wa lahu-l-hamd wa huwa ‘ala kulli shai’in qadir,’ one hundred times will get the same reward as given for manumitting ten slaves; and one hundred good deeds will be written in his accounts, and one hundred sins will be deducted from his accounts, and it (his saying) will be a shield for him from Satan on that day till night, and nobody will be able to do a better deed except the one who does more than he.” [Sahîh Al-Bukhari] |
Narrated Abû Hurayrah radhiAllâhu `anhu: Allâh’s Apostle sallAllâhu `alayhi wa sallam said:
If anyone extols Allâh after every prayer thirty-three times [SubhanAllâh], and praises Allâh thirty-three times [Alhamdulillah], and declares His Greatness thirty-three times [Allâh hu Akbar], ninety-nine times in all, and say to complete a hundred: “There is no god but Allâh, having no partner with Him, to Him belongs sovereignty and to Him to praise due, and He is Potent over everything,” his sins will be forgiven even if these are as Abûndant as the foam of the sea. [Sahîh Muslim] |
Abû Hurairah radhiAllâhu `anhu reported that the Prophet, sallAllâhu `alayhi wa sallam, said,
“If anyone sits in an assembly where there is much clamor and says before getting up to leave, “Subhanaka Allâhumma wa bihamdika, ashadu an-la illaha illa-anta, astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayka” (Glory be to You, O Allâh, and I begin with declaring all praise is due to You, I testify that there is no god but You; I ask Your pardon and turn to You in repentance), he will be forgiven any sin that he might have committed while in that assembly. [Tirmidhi and Al-Baihaqi, (Kitab ad-D'wat Al-kabir)] |
Mu’adh b. Anas radhiAllâhu `anhu reported that the Prophet, sallAllâhu `alayhi wa sallam, said,
“If anyone wears a new garment and says, ” ‘All praise be to Allâh, Who clothed me with this garment and provided it for me, with no power or strength from myself’ Allâh will forgive all his previous sins.” [Abû Dawûd 4023 in Kitaab al Libaas, At-Tirmidhi and Ibn Maajah] |
From Anas – RadhiAllaahu anhu – who said:
‘A Bedouin came to the Prophet – sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – and said: ‘O Messenger of Allaah! Teach me some goodness.’
So the Prophet – sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – took him by the hand and said:
” قل: سبحان الله، والحمد لله، ولا إله إلا الله، والله أكبر.
‘Say: ‘Far is Allaah from imperfection, and all praise be to Allaah, and there is none worthy of worship in truth except Allaah, and Allaah is the Greatest.’
(Subhana Allaahi, wal hamdu lillaahi, wa la illaah ila Allaah, wa Allaahu Akbar.)’
The Bedouin counted them on his hand, when he finished he began to reflect then came back to the Prophet.
The Prophet – sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – smiled and said:
‘The desperate one has reflected.’
Then the Bedouin came and said:
‘O Messenger of Allaah! ‘Far is Allaah from imperfection, and all praise be to Allaah, and there is none worthy of worship in truth except Allaah, and Allaah is the Greatest.’ This is for Allaah, what is for me?’
The Prophet – sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – said:
اللهم اغفر لي وارحمني وعافني وارزقني واهدني
‘Say: O Allaah forgive me, and have mercy on me, and pardon me, and provide for me, and guide me.’
The Prophet – sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – said to him:
‘O Bedouin! If you say: ‘SubhanAllah’, Allaah says: ‘you have spoken the truth,
If you say: ‘Alhamdulillah’, Allaah says: ‘ you have spoken the truth, If you say: ‘La ilaha ‘illa Allaah’, Allaah says: ‘you have spoken the truth,
If you say: Allaahu Akbar, Allaah says: ‘you have spoken the truth, If you say: O Allaah forgive me, Allaah says: I have done so,
If you say: O Allaah have mercy on me, Allaah says: I have done so, If you say: O Allaah give me provision, Allaah says: I have done so,
Then the Bedouin counted it seven times on his fingers, then went away.’
Shaykh al-Muhaddith al-Albaani -Rahimullaah – said :
Collected by al-Bayhaqi in ‘Shuab al-Eemaan’, and this Isnaad is Jayyid (good) its narrators are trustworthy as for al-Hasan bin Tawab; then I had become exhausted searching about him until I found who he was. So I performed a Sajdah to Allaah thankful for His success and I ask Him for an increase in His excellence.’

Spending in Charity
And he said: “The expiation for the fitnah caused to a man by his family, wealth and children is prayer, fasting, enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 494, Muslim, 5150).
Note: Zayd ibn Aslam reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, “Give to a beggar even if he comes on a horse.” [Muwatta, Number 58.1.3, Hasan by Ibn Hajar Asqalaani in Takhreej Mishkat al Masaabeh 3/208 but weakened by some]
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) said:
"Wealth does not diminish by giving Sadaqah (charity). Allah augments the honour of one who forgives; and one who serves another seeking the pleasure of Allah, Allah will exalt him in ranks. [Sahih Muslim and Riyad al-Saaliheen]

REMOVING THE STONE FROM THE WAY, GUIDING SOMEONE THE WAY, AND HELPING SOMEONE ALSO REMOVES SINS
'A'isha reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: Every one of the children of Adam has been created with three hundred and sixty joints; so he who declares the Glory of Allah, praises Allah, declares Allah to be One, Glorifies Allah, and seeks forgiveness from Allah, and removes stone, or thorn, or bone from people's path, and enjoins what is good and forbids from evil, to the number of those three hundred and sixty-four, will walk that day having removed himself from Hell.[Sahih Muslim Book 005, Number 2199]
Prophet (s.a.w said : “Your smiling in the face of your (Muslim) brother is charity; enjoining the good & forbidding the evil is charity; your guiding a man that has lost his way is charity; & your removing of stones, thorns, & bones from people’s paths is charity for you.”
[Tirmidhi, Birr (Piety), 36]
Abu Dharr is reported as saying, "Your putting some of the water from your bucket in your brother's bucket is sadaqa. Your removing stones. thorns and bones from people's path is sadaqa. Your guiding a man in a place where there are no guides is sadaqa.[Adab al Mufrad 891]
Spreading the salaam , giving food and kind words to people
Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) has recorded the following narration:
Sayyiduna Abu Shurayh Hani’ ibn Yazid (radiyallahu ‘anhu) says,”I asked Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), tell me of a deed by virtue of which I will gain Jannah.” Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, “Verily, among the deeds which necessitate [Allah’s] forgiveness are spreading salam and using kind words.”
(Al Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 469, volume 22)
The Hadith in question has also been recorded in many other Hadith collections on the authority of the same Sahabi but with slight variations in the wording of some and a lengthier version in others.
(Sahih Ibn Hibban; Al Ihsan, Hadith: 490 and 504, Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, Hadith: 25841, Al Adabul Mufrad of Imam Bukhari, Hadith: 811, Al Mu’jamul Kabir, Hadith: 470, volume: 22, Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 1 pg. 23)
In some of the above references, the words ‘Giving [people] food’ appear in place of ‘Spread salam’
